Area Cemetery Visit
Overview
In September 2014, I was doing on-site cemetery research in Iredell and Yadkin counties, north of Charlotte, NC. Previously, I had done work for a friend and knew some of his ancestors were buried nearby. So I found Flat Rock Baptist Church, in Hamptonville, took pictures, and put together the document below to show my friend where his GG-Grandparents, and other ancestors, were buried. Sadly, my friend passed away a couple months later, but I was so thankful to have shown him where his ancestors rested since he had never been to the cemetery at Flat Rock Baptist Church.

Insight
Visiting cemeteries is inspiring and emotional, and a great way to honor our ancestors. Unfortunately, not all cemeteries are as well maintained as the one at Flat Rock Baptist Church. Many times gravestones and markers have deteriorated so badly over the years that they are not now legible. And worse, sometimes cemeteries cannot be found at all, especially those located on private property or inaccessible locations.
